Model:  Gibson Flying V (I refuse to acknowledge "V factor X" or whatever they're calling these today.....)

Mfr Date:  May 2006, Received used 9/18/08.

Color:  Classic White

Pickups:  Stock 496R & 500T Humbuckers

Neck:  They say that the Flying V is supposed to have its own neck profile, which is a combination of a 50's fat rounded and a 60's slim taper.  It's fine, I kind of like it, but I don't really feel much of a "rounded" feel to it.  I'd say it's more like a slim taper.

Hardware:  Everything stock so far.

Electrical:  Two Volume, Master Tone, three way switch

See Gibson's page here.

Mods:

  • Received the guitar with gold schaller strap locks on it even though the rest of it was chrome.  Changed them to match.  9/22/08

  • Changed all the electronics to the RS Guitarworks Modern Flying V/Explorer kit.  However, did not use their tone pot.  Used a DPDT Push/Pull pot to provide phase reversal.  9/22/08

  • Added a treble bleed circuit to the neck volume.  9/22/08

  • Installed SKATTERBRANE A5 pickups.  A MAJOR improvement over stock.  12/26/08.

  • I didn't like what the treble bleed circuit did to the functionality of the tone control.  Removed it, may try again with some different components.  2/28/10.
